Jesus: the way, the truth and the life

It was the last week of Jesus' ministry. The city of Jerusalem was teeming with pilgrims. The feast of Easter had come again. The Jewish Sanhedrin had hired false witnesses to accuse Jesus. Judas, driven by greed, had already sold and awaiting the time to deliver it. In this tense atmosphere that Jesus meets with the disciples in the Upper Room and minister to their heart a word of hope and comfort. Unfolds before the eyes of these men afflicted his purpose to prepare a place for them in the Father's house, showing them that they already knew the way to where he was going. Thomas the patron of skepticism, incontinent replies: "Lord, we know where you are going, how do you know the way?" (John 14.5). Then Jesus answered him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14.6). Jesus is a rather self-introduction significant in this text. What he actually saying?

1. Jesus is the way to God - Jesus is not one of many other ways. It is the only way. Christianity does not deal with the inclusive faith. Jesus was absolutely exclusive. There are no shortcuts to God. There are other routes that lead man to heaven. The popular expression that proclaims that all religion is good and all roads lead to God is an outright lie. The Bible says there are ways that seem right to a man, but in the end are the ways of death. Jesus is the only way that leads man to God. Jesus is the only gate of heaven. Jesus is the only mediator between God and men. Jesus is the only Savior of the world. Search go to God through other mediators is to take a broad way that leads to ruin. Embrace a religion that denies the uniqueness of Christ as the only way to God is to go down a road whose final destination is eternal perdition.

2. Jesus is the truth that illuminates the mind - Jesus is not a deceiver. It is not a farsário. He is full of grace and truth. He not only lived the truth and preached the truth. He is truth itself. Truth is not relative to preach some or flabby as they think others. Truth is objective, translucent and absolute. The truth is Jesus. He is not one of many truths. He is not a deity in the pantheon of many other deities. He is not one theory among many other religious proposals. Jesus is the only truth can fill our minds with light and warm our hearts with solid security. Jesus is not a truth discovered by man, but revealed by God. We know not by mental dexterity effort. We know because he revealed, because it was made flesh, because he dwelt among us full of grace and truth.

3. Jesus is the life that satisfies - Jesus is life, because it is the source of physical and spiritual life. Sin separated man from God and killed him spiritually. Man without God is dead in trespasses and sins. Man without God has no appetite for spiritual things. He is blind to the things above. Your heart is hardened and rebelled against God. Man without God is a slave of sin, the world, the flesh and the devil. He feeds on ashes and walks to eternal death, but only Christ can save him. Jesus is the one who gives life and it is life. No religion can take the man out of spiritual death. No ritual can lift it from the existential grave. Only Jesus has life. Only Jesus gives life. And only Jesus is life. Man seeks reason for life in many sources. But all these sources are polluted. Man seeks pleasure in drink, wealth, sex and success, but the end of that line is disgust and dissatisfaction. Jesus, and he alone is the life that satisfies. It offers life and life in abundance to all those who believe in him.
