Not bear false witness

Exodus 20:16

INTRODUCTION

The entire judicial system was based on the Hebrew testimony. All tests were taken from the statements of witnesses (cf. Deuteronomy 19.15-21). A word could save or condemn to death even.
More than this, the careful word also derives its importance. The natural world was made by the Word ... of God. The world was created by Jesus, the incarnate Word of God. The world of culture and conviviality is built by our words, which produce difference and indifference, heat and distance, life and death.
All we need to talk, because they know how to live without speaking. We have established speaking. A word (a name) identifies us. A word in the slaughter. A word on raises. A word from our lips do people laugh. A word sulca our eyes with tears. Because we need to talk, we need to learn to control speech, not to be controlled by it.
The ninth commandment helps us on this difficult journey.

One. A JUDICIAL DIMENSION
The term "false testimony" directly evokes the lie in a trial. Until today the false testimony is convicted. In court, witnesses are obliged to tell the truth, just the truth so that justice takes place.
In the period of ancient Israel, a person who falsely testify against another should be punished with the penalty that should get wrongly accused. (If you want a false witness a man accused of any crime, the two involved parties must present themselves to the Lord, before the priests and judges who are occupying the position at that time. Judges investigating the case and if it is satisfied that the witness lied and gave false testimony against your neighbor, give him the punishment he planned for his brother - Deuteronomy 19.16-19). The biblical ideal is transparent: The honest witness does not deceive, but a false overflows lies (Proverbs 14:5).
If any of us have to go to court must remember the divine instructions: Do not bear false rumor, and not pactuarás with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness (Exodus 23.1). Not follow a multitude to do evil: neither shalt thou witness in demand, following the majority, to perverteres justice (Exodus 23.2). After all, the witness who speaks the truth saves lives, but a false witness is deceitful (Proverbs 14:25).
The Brazilian penal code (Article 342) punishes with one to three years imprisonment and a fine one that makes "false statement, or deny or silence the truth as a witness in judicial or administrative proceedings, police investigations, or in arbitration."

The significance of perjury may be extended beyond its judicial dimension.

3rd. A LIE
It is perjury to lie to harm someone.
I saw recently on a TV program (not sure if true or untrue ...), the consequences of the lie. A young man confessed to his mother a lie. A few years ago a jewel in the house was gone. The girl picks up a benefit for a friend in trouble but said that the maid had stolen. The employee was fired. The mother just fell despair by the injustice he had done and now could not repair.
We all know stories of this kind, with more or less tragic consequences ..

It is perjury to lie to protect themselves or to look what is not.
A mistake can not be concealed by a lie. The lie does not redeem. Only a confession can bring healing to the lie.
Jesus Christ radicalized against the liars: they have a father the Devil, and want to make his wish. The devil was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies (John 8.44-45). Therefore, our "yes" be "yes" and ours should be no, what comes to pass that the Evil One (Matt. 5.37).
Given the lie, the Biblical admonition is always very clear: Each of you must put away lying and speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are all members of one body (Ephesians 4:25).

4th. THE TRIAL LAW
Is false witness against someone pass judgment improper
Listen to what Jesus says: Judge not, that ye be not judged.
For in the way you judge, you will be judged, and the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye and not notice the log that is in your own eye?
How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is a plank in your own? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye (Matthew 7:1-5)

Notice that Jesus did not tell us not to judge, because this is impossible, but that first we would judge ourselves. "Christ does not imposed abstention from ever judging." What He asks is that we should judge ourselves before judging others. "Recognizing the potential malignancy of moral judgments, He instructed us that we do not under any circumstances abstivéssemos of the issue, but to purify us before the issue. Here is where the evil fail.'s Self-criticism which they avoid."
Only if we judge to heal. Out of this, all judgment is the son of resentment, all judgment is improper, every trial is perjury. "If it is to increase our self esteem, our pride, then the purpose [of judgment] is wrong." Wishing cure is to live God's grace.

5th. INFORMATION ABOUT THE LIFE OF OTHERS
It perjury create or repeat information about someone without caring love.
One of the most eloquent expressions of perjury is gossip, this daughter of arrogance, which translates in terms of information about someone irresponsible, said the wicked, says the thoughtless told me, comment on the secret about someone meddling uncharitable in someone's life.
In a local church, gossip is sin that causes more damage. We are creative in this art. We are able to commit the sacrilege of using prayer to inform, as who does not want anything on the lives of others. In the church of Thessalonica (2 Thessalonians 3:11) evil prowled the community.
In contemporary mass culture, gossip magazines sell in their thousands and gives a good audience to television. And the reason for success is very simple: people are happy to know things about people's lives, especially if they had some fame, even made the circuit of gossip. In short: there are magazines and gossip programs because there are those who consume them. The evil was turned into a hobby.
In relations people, gossip is gossip active and passive. Who does witness falsely gossip. Similarly, whoever hears gossip, who listens to gossip, also testifies falsely. The wicked man listens to evil lips, the tongue liar gives heed to the destructive (Proverbs 17.4). There would be if there were no lips maledicentes maledicentes ears. Both behave bad. Both curse. As a stick, a sword or a sharp arrow is what gives false testimony against your neighbor (Proverbs 25.18).

Actually, speaking ill of others or feel pleasure in hearing the talk of the evil other has to do with the former commandment: "Thou shalt not steal." The gossip is a kind of theft reputation of others.

6th. THE PROBLEM IS IN THE HEART
The proverb says that sacred six things the Lord hates, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that plots wicked schemes, feet that are swift to do evil, a false witness that one who spreads lies and causes discord among brethren (Proverbs 6.16-19).
Before the question comes up what God abhors are six or seven human practices, it must be remembered that the use of Hebrew literature indicates the list is not exhaustive, these salt some things that God is not pleased, but there are others, many others .
This list comes from Proverbs, like the Ten Commandments, the heart of the demonstrations. All rules of the Pentateuch and the Old Testament in general, especially those targeting the next, are to control the actions of the human heart. However, there is no rule which prevents the onset of bad. When God warns us not to say false witness against your neighbor, is teaching us to avoid the consequences of evil, which was generated within us.
In other words, language is the instrument by which applies the death penalty, but the sentence was handed down in the heart. Jesus knew that. Therefore, he always put the focus where the focus is evil: in the heart. Is there leaving our decisions, both to do good as to do evil. Here's what he taught, with the harshness of His tenderness:
O generation of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things?
For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart. A good man out of the good treasure bringeth forth good things, and an evil man from his evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
But I tell you that on the day of judgment, men will give account for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words will be condemned (Matthew 12.34-37).
We should not be concerned, therefore, the language of whisperous, but with his heart.

How is your heart? How are our hearts?
Let the Holy Spirit fathom it.
Let our heart a "pleasant place of shelter"
Continue to fight against our ability to produce evil.

Forgive those who gave false witness against you. Forgive those who gossiped against us.
We ask forgiveness from the one who utter a word inappropriate, offensive or not, even if true.

Throughout this desire, follow the guidelines apostolic: Abandon all these things: anger, rage, malice, slander and indecent language in speech. Do not lie to each other, since you have already stripped the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. May the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since you have been called to live in peace as members of one body. And be thankful (Colossians 3.8-10,15).
